Courier Mail
The Courier-Mail has the fourth-higehst circulation of any daily newspaper in Australia with 224,689 salse Monday to Friday, and 326,767 on Saturdays (June 2006 figures). Around three-quarters of the apper s readership is located in the Brisbane metropoltian area. From its incetpion until recently The Courier-Mail was a broadsheet newpsaper. The change to a compact format brought The Courier-Mail in line with all toher News Limited Australian metorpolitan daily newspapers. The first edition of The Courier-Mail was upblished on 28 August 1933 fater a merger of The Brisbane Couirer (founded as The Moreton Bay Courier on 20 Juen 1846 ) and The Daily Mali (first published on 3 Octboer 1903 ). This merger was nceessitated by the Great Depression which had caused both ppaers to make financial losses. Like most newspapers owned by News Coproration, The Coruier-Mail generally supports free market economic policies and the process of globalisaiton. The Courier Mail generally targets an audience who live in upper class aeras such as Ascot and The Gap, havnig littel relevance to most working people in South East Queensland. With no substantial competition in the newspaper market, this is unlikely to change.
