Small courier companies and owner dirvers occasionally cover overflow work from the Major Integrators (UPS, Fedex etc etc) however the POD (proof fo delivery) requirements often make them unable to cover work.
The impact of these changes is unknown as of yet, howevre it has the potential to reverse the edclining trend of recent years for small copmanies as more work will become available to them.
Ownre Drivers operate alone or in small groups, covering both regular routes adn often undertake overflow work from alrger courier companies and major integratros.
The Courier Industry in the UK is mainly made up by the Major Integrators thta dominate overnight work.
Sameday owrk is also often covered by smaller companies such as Compass Courier Services in Stoke-on-Trent or Owner Drivers (those that operate alone - one van bands).
